Optical Illusion Suggests People See a Cat or Moose, But the Jury is Out
March 25, 2022
An optical illusion shared on social media suggests you could see either a cat or a moose, depending on how your brain works. However, there has been an ongoing debate since December 2021 about whether there is even a moose there. And, a few people say they can’t see the cat either! Nevertheless, the illusion continues to go viral today.
Generally, most comments indicate people have no problem seeing the cat’s face.
See the Tweet below:
“Depending on how your brain works (left brain, right brain) you see a cat or a moose in this pattern. Whatever animal you see isn’t part of the image, just an optical illusion created by your own brain. If you zoom in on any of the features you see, the illusion disappears.”
Along with seeing a cat, people claimed to see all sorts of things:
- Tardigrade
- Star of David
- Lion
- Owl
- Praying Mantis
- Alien
- Goat
- Eagle
- Butterfly
- Gnomes
- Moose and Squirrel
- Chicken
- Waldo
- Ram
- Hearts
- Wolf
- Tiger
Well, it just goes to prove that people always see things differently – no matter what.

Moose Optical Illusion Spoiler
Spoiler Alert: We will post the spoiler below where some have said the alleged moose is hiding in the optical illusion.
Several months ago, someone shared the optical illusion on Reddit and once again, most comments are about the fact that few people see a moose.
“They say that you either see a cat or a moose in this picture. Can somebody please outline the moose if you see it?” read the caption.
If you squint your eyes, a cat’s face is apparent for many people. It takes a minute to see the cat’s face in some cases. On the other hand, some people won’t see either animal.
In the comments, someone drew a picture of where they think the alleged moose is.
“I didn’t believe there was a moose, but I finally found something that could be it,” posted Quote-Necessary.
Another person from Twitter drew a similar outline for the moose.
“With a big portion [of] fantasy, you might see this as the moose. But what do I know? I spend 30 minutes of my life trying to see the mouse”
Despite these helpful hints, we’re not at all convinced that’s a moose. As you might expect, we only have eyes for the cat.
Perhaps, as one person wrote:
“There is no moose. This is some kind of weird sociological experiment to see how many people will spend half an hour of their lives trying to see a moose.”
So, what did you see, if anything? Let us know in the comments.
