Rescued at 13, Jarvis Becomes First Diplocat for Lexington KY Shelter
March 23, 2022
Jarvis the Diplocat became the newest outgoing, friendly ambassador for the Lexington Humane Society (LHS) in Kentucky. The motto for the shelter on Facebook is:
“Foster Y’all! Foster a life, save two!”
How great is that?
Previously, the shelter had named dogs they take to events as “Ambassadogs,” but Jarvis became the “first official cat who does well on public outings.”
A few months ago, Jarvis, a 13-year-old cat, arrived at the shelter in bad shape. Nevertheless, he quickly recovered and managed to steal hearts at the shelter.
“After receiving some much-needed medical care and TLC, we quickly realized Jarvis is an affectionate and social boy!” the shelter posted to Facebook.
After that, one of the team soon decided to adopt Jarvis.
“Our Vet Tech staff loved him so much they didn’t want him to leave. And he didn’t. He was adopted by one of the team members and now resides permanently at LHS.”

Jarvis the Diplotcat Ambassador
Many times, cats need some time to adjust to new situations, but Jarvis seems to take everything in stride. For example, he took to wearing a leash and meeting new people right away. Now, how many cats can you say “love” wearing a leash? Well, that’s how shelter staff described his reaction.
As a result, he became the first cat candidate to mingle with the public and help promote the shelter’s program called Rex and Rover.
A social climber
Climbing the Social Ladder
Through the program, therapy dogs, and now a cat, interact with the community, such as at workplaces or events.
“Jarvis enjoys long walks on his harness and leash, cat treats, and purring loudly as people hold and love on him. Because of his outgoing nature, Jarvis is now a candidate for our Relax with Rover program. For those of you who attended Tails & Ales, Jarvis attended and likes to think he was the star of the show! Big crowd, loud music, bright lights – none of it phased Jarvis as he strolled around and greeted all of the guests.”

From the pictures, it looks like Tails & Ales was quite an event with a live band. So much commotion would rattle many pets, but not Jarvis.
How Jarvis Earned His Title
In early March, the LHS asked followers for help in designating Jarvis’ official title. Choices included:
1. Diplocat
2. Advocat
3. Repurrsentative
4. Spokespurrson
Later, they announced the winning title:
“Jarvis loves being part of the team and really likes your choice! The winning title is…DIPLOCAT with a total of 68 votes! Thank you for helping us choose the perfect title for this purrrfect feline,” they wrote.

Jarvis Appears on the News
Recently Jarvis and Meghan Hawkins from the LHS appeared on LEX 18 to talk about his rapid rise to Diplocat status.
Describing Jarvis, Hawkins said:
“He’s very laid-back, [and] not phased by what’s going on so you can take him out in public. You can have him around dogs, [and] have him around loud noises,” Hawkins said.

Jarvis the Diplocat Found Behind a Pizza Joint
As the story goes, someone found Jarvis behind a pizza restaurant, and he needed considerable care to recover. As with everything, it seems, the cat bounced back quickly. Soon, he was hob-nobbing and mingling at events, in his element as a social climber.
Now, Jarvis and his loveable purrsonality is helping other pets find homes. At the same time, his appearance is lifting spirits for the community. So, he’s bringing relief, love, and kindness wherever he is seen.
“I think right now people need something happy and positive,” Hawkins said.
In return, the cat is living his best life with never a dull moment.
Chilling out
What a difference this senior shelter cat is making in the lives of everyone in the Lexington area! As an older cat, he’s sending an amazing message because these cats often have more difficulty finding homes. As you can see, Jarvis the Diplocat shows older cats can make exceptional companions. Frequently, they even become standout stars, gentle souls who bring love everywhere they go.
And now, his story is touching people everywhere.
