Devoted Dog Dad Takes Ill Labradoodle On A Final Mountain Hike In A Wheelbarrow To Say Goodbye
March 25, 2022
A dog is always a man’s best friend, and the bonds we form with them are unrivaled. And when they die, they leave a gap in our hearts that will never be filled. This is why hearing that a man took his dying labradoodle up their favorite mountain is so touching. Even if it meant putting him in a wheelbarrow and taking one final walk together.
As it stands, ten-year-old Monty used to enjoy exploring hills and walking all over the country with his friend and owner, Carlos Fresco. The pair had been frequent visitors to the Brecon Beacons, a mountain range in South Wales, according to Fresco.
When the labradoodle became ill and began to slow down, Fresco decided to take him back to their favorite spot, where he stayed with his friends once more. As a result, he and his beloved canine companion would be able to embark on a final journey together.
Fresco and Monty had recently walked to the top of Pen y Fan together, with the dog using a wheelbarrow to get there. Several walkers stopped along the way to greet the owner and meet Monty.
Monty the labradoodle died on June 21, 2021, after taking his last walk. He had been battling leukemia for 18 months. Although the dog responded well to chemotherapy at first, he was unable to beat the disease when it returned.
Fresco stated, “Although he was weak, he enjoyed all the fuss and attention received by so many well-wishers. People on the hills were so kind and equally so sad at his deteriorating condition. In fact, total strangers asked if they could share in pushing Monty on his last journey- many total strangers shed a tear as we all love our little four-legged friends dearly.”
Fresco is extremely grateful to everyone who helped him on his final walk to the top of the hill. He also expressed gratitude to everyone who has cared for the dog over the last ten years.
“The little guy touched so many lives,” Fresco said. He made everyone he came into contact with smile and reflect on how life isn’t always so bad."
