Rattlesnake Latches Onto Dog & Bites Him 5 Times As Dog Tries To Break Free

March 28, 2022

Toad, a German Shorthaired Pointer, came across a rattlesnake while running around outside near his Kuna, Idaho home.

He was grabbed by the rattlesnake, which bit him five times.

“I saw a snake cartwheeling in the air as I approached him, and when I got up to him, I kept him between me and the snake, and when I went to grab him, big mistake, there were multiple snakes,” Fritz Brownell, his owner, told KTVB.

Toad’s owners took him to the vet right away, but the venom had already taken hold, and he began bleeding from his lips and gums.

The vets quickly examined him and discovered that he had been bitten on both sides of his face, as well as on his front left leg multiple times. He swelled up right away, but vets gave him an anti-venom shot.

His owners were worried that he wouldn’t make it, but he did.

As Toad recovers, his owners are warning other pet owners to be vigilant in areas where rattlesnakes may be present.

The best thing to do right now, according to Idaho Fish and Game, is to keep your dogs on a leash while out walking in the foothills or desert.
