After Devastating Texas Tornado, This Blind Kitty Was Saved From the Rubble

March 25, 2022

Tornadoes, twisters, ‘naders, cyclones, whatever you call these scary swirly winds of destruction that come down from the skies, everyone can agree they are fascinating yet terrifying. Lately over the years tornadoes have become stronger and stronger, and at one point there was even talk of adding an EF (which stands for Enhanced Fujita) 6 to the scale! Often, these destructive winds destroy homes, even killing people and pets. Due to tornadoes, many pets go missing, and the strays are often in danger.

However, there was a happy ending to the recent Texas tornado that ripped through Jacksboro. The awful news is, one of the building hit by the twister was an animal shelter. The good news is, all animals were found and accounted for including this adorable kitty that happens to be blind.

The kitty, now named Nado, was pulled from the rubble of the shelter after the tornado went through. The woman who found Nado said he was pretty shaken up when he was found, but otherwise he was in good health. Reportedly, she took him home and got him cleaned up. When Nado was found, he was dirty and wet, the poor baby.

The Denton Animal Support Foundation (DASF), a nonprofit organization that helps with saving pets in Texas, assisted with the rescue and efforts of the shelter. The DASF posted the photo of Nado right after he was found in the rubble.

“Our thoughts are with the animals and staff of the Jacksboro Animal Shelter, which took a direct hit by a tornado yesterday. All animals were accounted for with just some minor injuries,” DASF wrote on Facebook along with the photo of Nado.”

Also in the post, DASF added, “Rescue workers found this cat in the rubble. They have named him Nado … as in “tornado” He will be checked out by a vet and brought to the Springtown Animal Shelter or to a foster home.”Nado the cat and Jacksboro animal shelter

The caption also reads, “The shelter is gone,” but according to DASF none of the animals were harmed by the tornado. Well that’s certainly good news!

DASF also goes on in the post to say, “No animals were injured.

We assisted Jacksboro shelter, which is 30 miles west of us. We only took in the animals that were housed at the time of the tornado. All animals found after the storm will be housed at the live oak vet … the animals are safe.”

The shelter was interviewed about the destruction of the building, which you can watch here.

But as of now, Nado is not going to a foster home or up for adoption. We hope the Jacksboro shelter can get up and running swiftly after this tragedy. And back to saving many precious animal lives!
