Rescue dog seen in Oscars Betty White tribute gets adopted by John Travolta

While there were many memorable moments with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars at the Oscars on Sunday, one surprise guest made the night for animal lovers: a rescue dog named Mac-n-Cheese, who took the stage as part of a special tribute to Betty White.
Mac-n-Cheese, the sweet dog held by Jamie Lee Curtis, made quite an impression — and now, his story has gotten an amazing and even more star-studded update, with Mac-n-Cheese finding a home with one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
The dog made an appearance as part of the Oscars' annual memorial segment, which honors those who have died in the industry in the previous year. Sidney Poitier, Ivan Reitman, and Betty White were among the celebrities honored with special tributes.
White died on December 31, just weeks before her 100th birthday, at the age of 99. The legendary comedic actress was best known for her roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Golden Girls, as well as films like The Proposal.
She was, however, a dedicated animal advocate who supported various animal causes for decades, often anonymously. She frequently stated that she wished to be remembered for her work with animals.
So when the Oscars paid tribute to the late actress, they made sure to include a sweet rescue dog named Mac-n-Cheese, who was carried on stage by Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis.
In her tribute to White, Curtis says, “She was not only a Golden Girl, she was a legend who brightened every room she walked in and brought a smile to the faces of all who watched her on the screen.” “And day in and day out for almost a century, she was a woman who cared so much for animals like this, not just her two-legged friends.”
She then encouraged those watching to adopt a rescue pet in tribute of Betty.
“The best gift you can give Betty White is to open your heart and home and adopt a rescue dog like Mac-N-Cheese from Paw Works.” So thank you, Betty, for being such a good friend to us all."
The little dog wowed audiences all over the world — and made an indelible impression on one famous actor.
In a reunion with his co-stars from Pulp Fiction, John Travolta, the iconic star of classics like Saturday Night Fever and Grease, was at the ceremony, presenting Best Actress.
Travolta ran into Curtis, his friend and co-star in the 1985 film Perfect, at an Oscars event and couldn’t resist a photo with Mac-n-Cheese. Curtis uploaded a photo to Instagram.
That turned out to be the start of a wonderful friendship. Curtis later discovered that Travolta and his family had permanently adopted Mac-n-Cheese!
Travolta announced the adoption with a photo of his son Ben holding Mac-n-Cheese.
John Travolta wrote, “Ben adopted this dog from last nights Oscar tribute to Betty White,” thanking Curtis and Paw Works.
Curtis also shared the news, calling it a “emotional conclusion” to the story and a “perfect tribute to Betty White,” adding that it highlights the work that animal shelters do on a daily basis.
This sweet little rescue dog now has a home with one of Hollywood’s most famous stars, and it’s a true “Hollywood ending.”
Betty White is probably smiling up there, knowing that her Oscars tribute helped a dog find a home.
Betty White left a lasting legacy and continues to inspire people to be kind to animals even though she is no longer alive.
Following her death, fans and animal lovers felt compelled to do something in her honor, and the “Betty White Challenge” was born, encouraging people to donate $5 to their favorite animal rescue organization. On White’s 100th birthday, donations to shelters across the country skyrocketed.
Curtis, who co-starred with White in the film You Again and is an animal rights advocate, had her red carpet dress designed by animal rights advocate Stella McCartney, in addition to paying tribute to her on stage.
“When I knew I was going to make a statement about Betty White, I went to Stella McCartney, who is an animal rights activist,” Curtis told Access Hollywood, according to Us Magazine.
“They made this dress for me.” I get the impression it’s telling Betty’s story."
What a heartwarming ending to this story. We know Mac-n-Cheese will have a very happy new home with John Travolta and his family, and we know Betty White would be very proud!
