This Dog Gave This Prisoner A Reason To Live And A Second Chance At Life.
April 18, 2022
Smokey was abandoned at a kill shelter in Las Vegas, Nevada by his family. He was misunderstood by his family, who claimed he bit people. For the first few weeks in the shelter, he wouldn’t let anyone touch him. The cover thought he’d be a good fit for a dog training program run in collaboration with inmates because of his behavior.
It would be his second chance to achieve his goals in life.
For the training program, Smokey was assigned to Jason, who was always encouraging and sending positive energy down that leash. He also made sure Smokey was always safe when he was with him. Over time, Smokey became more sensitive to Jason’s emotions, and the two became attuned to each other’s feelings. And for Jason, that sensitivity became the necessary balance.
Jason also learned to give trust in order to receive trust from Smokey. The only thing that kept Jason alive was the bond they formed.
Smokey was finally ready to start the next chapter of his life, finding his own family, after months of training. Jason, on the other hand, felt sick to his stomach when he left, and the other inmates teased him about it, saying it was because he missed Smokey. He’d also ask his mother, Cheryl, if he’d already been adopted on a regular basis. Then he said that he wished Smokey was his dog during their conversation.
After hearing this, Cheryl and her husband decided to adopt Smokey for Jason. Smokey is now a happy family man with a younger sibling. He seemed to fit in with their small family, according to Cheryl. Jason, on the other hand, is overjoyed to see his pal again.
