Deformed Dog Gets Ignored Because Adopters Think He’s Hideous, But This Woman Loves Him So Much And Gives Him A Happy Life Despite His Rare Genetic Disorder

All dogs are stunning. They are still valuable creatures who deserve to be cherished, regardless of whether they have special needs, permanent scars, or unusual features. Walter, a dog, was overlooked and abandoned at a shelter. A certain animal lover’s heart was broken by the reasons why the dog was (many times) overlooked. Gabby, an animal lover, was already at the shelter rescuing another dog when she was summoned to meet Walter by a volunteer.
“Hey Gabby, you’ve got to see this dog!” said the volunteer. Gabby rescued dogs with special needs, and the volunteer thought she might be able to help Walter find a forever home. Gabby knew the one-of-a-kind puppy was anything but ordinary as soon as she saw him. She’d never seen a dog with such a prominent underbite or as skinny as this one. He also had obvious leg and spine deformities. Gabby was unconcerned. She wanted to take Walter’s hand in hers and introduce herself.
Gabby realized Walter wasn’t just unique and special to her; she also realized the harsh reality. Because of his special needs, Walter would be difficult to place, and he would either languish in the shelter for a long time or be euthanized. When they passed by Walter’s kennel, most people cringed. Many people thought the dog was simply unattractive. Gabby, however, is an exception! He was perfect, she thought.
The sweet woman knew she had to take Walter home and adopt him right then and there. The dog’s “flaws” were easily overlooked by Gabby. Walter was perfect in her eyes. It didn’t matter that he didn’t look like other dogs or that he wouldn’t live a long life; all that mattered was that he could love and that Gabby could provide him with a good life.
Walter suffers from mucopolysaccharidosis, also known as MPS VI, a rare genetic disorder. Regrettably, it is a fatal, progressive disease. But just because Walter might not live a long life doesn’t mean he can’t live a good one. Walter’s extraordinary qualities were immediately apparent when he returned home with Gabby. He appears to be in a constant time of joy. He’s set on walking (and even running) as much as possible. Despite the fact that moving around is difficult on his body, Walter was unfazed. Gabby was ecstatic!
Gabby first focused on physical therapy in a small kiddie pool when Walter returned home. It was a hit with Walter. In addition, the water greatly strengthened his body. After that, it was time to tackle the yard. Walter didn’t let anything get in the time of his goal of reaching his mother, who was cheering him on the whole way.
Gabby credits her relationship with Walter to her father, who passed of Multiple Sclerosis. In the video below, she explains that her father was also disabled at the end of his life but remained incredibly strong. Gabby gained a whole new perspective on people and animals who face such adversity but persevere. Gabby was reminded of her father when she saw Walter and his positive attitude. Her father was the same way.
