Murchick travelled 2500 miles to be reunited with his Ukrainian family

April 17, 2022

Murchick was shot at and shelled in war-torn Ukraine before he travelled over 2500 miles across five European countries to be reunited with his owners and taken to his loving family’s home in the UK.

Murchik’s family moved to the UK in 2021 but he was not allowed to travel to the UK until February 2022 due to post-Brexit regulations.

Murchick had to stay at his grandma’s home but a few months later she passed away and her neighbours took care of Murchick until his family in the UK could get things sorted out.

When he was finally able to join his family, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began and Murchick was struck in Ukraine!

The Ukrainian family who was looking after Murchick was forced to leave their home one week into the conflict because of constant shelling and could not take him with them.

It took the Murchick’s family five attempts to get their six-year-old kitty across the Ukrainian border.

He had to travel 2,500-mile journey through five European countries to return to the family’s home in the UK.

Half his journey was in the middle of a warzone – he’s been shot at and shelled.

His dad explained: “We were just finalising the arrangements to bring Murchick home when the invasion happened. We eventually managed to get someone who was heading towards Laviv that was willing to take the cat with them … so at least we knew he was safe. But the we had to get him across the border.”

Once across the border, Murchick’s mom flew to Austria to pick him up and together they travelled by train through Germany and France where his dad was waiting for them to drive them back to the UK.

Murchick is now home with his loving Ukrainian family again!
